Beginning in June 2018, YBDF is excited to announce that REACH Yoga is expanding its focus from those touched by breast cancer to those touched by all forms of cancer. YBDF looks forward to benefitting a broader community.

What is R.E.A.C.H. Yoga?

Restore, Exhale, and Align with a Community of Healing

Katherine Schaefer E-RYT500, LMT teaches therapeutic yoga for those touched by cancer. Katherine teaches weekly at Karma Yoga in Bloomfield Hill, Michigan where she is loved and respected by her students. Katherine’s background in yoga offers her the insight to work with students who need physical and emotional support.

REACH benefits those touched by cancer by:

  • Enhancing physical and emotional wellness
  • Helping students reconnect  with their body
  • Improving strength, flexibility and mobility
  • Restoring range of motion
  • Healing the heart
  • Enhancing quality of life
  • Boosting Immunity
  • Countering fatigue
A good friend of mine sent me an email she had received about R.E.A.C.H. Yoga. I had never taken a yoga class….how could I get twisted up like a pretzel? Could I really do yoga?

The email read “Therapeutic Yoga for those touched by Breast Cancer.” It went on to say
it was a brand new program and it was free of charge.

I decided to check out this new class. I borrowed a yoga mat, signed up on the web page, heard
back from Katherine, the instructor, told her of my medical concerns, and she invited me to come
try out the class.

I was nervous the first class but Katherine and her assistant, Denise, were so reassuring. I needed a chair to help me to the floor and there is always one ready for me.

Movements that were hard for me to do or that I was unable to do, Katherine always had an
alternate method of doing that movement.

I look forward to Mondays. I may not know all the names of the movements and may not do them very well but I am doing much better than when I started.

Katherine and Denise both say I am doing well….and compliment me on my progress.

This really makes me feel good. Life after breast cancer has been a rough road for me. I am so
grateful for the sponsors – Angel Pillow Project and Yoga by Design Foundation for making this
opportunity available to breast cancer survivors.

Katherine and Denise are the best teachers and
will help all of us do better. I am so happy that I looked into R.E.A.C.H. Yoga.
