Freedom House

YBDF funded two programs for Freedom House, a temporary home for survivors of persecution from around the world.


Co-Sponsored by The Angel Pillow Project, R.E.A.C.H Yoga provides those touched by breast cancer with the abilities to enhance physical and emotional wellness while reconnecting with their body.

Covenant House

Covenant House Michigan provides hope to homeless, runaway and at-risk youth ages 18-24. YBDF offers a Yoga program to help young people work through complex issues with patient resolve.

VeteranS' Affairs
Military Sexual Trauma

YBDF supports veterans healing from PTSD and sexual abuse each Tuesday at the John Dingell VA in Detroit. Participants report yoga practice giving them peace of mind, empowering them to live their lives.

ACE Academy at
Calumet & Lincoln

YBDF sponsors a yoga program at the Calumet Center and the Lincoln Center in Highland Park, facilities operated by Spectrum Human Services. YBDF offers young men in trouble with the law the opportunity to learn, heal, and grow.


ENHANCE teacher Rebecca Roman teaches yoga weekly to a group of disabled women ages eighteen to sixty with a modified yoga practice that offers chairs, walls, and the floor for support, making yoga accessible and safe to these women.

Vista Maria

Beginning in July 2018, YBDF has supported Vista Maria, in their mission to deliver innovative care, support, treatment and education to vulnerable youth, so that they heal, believe in their worth, and build the skills needed to succeed. Yoga practice gives youth the tools they need to thrive.

Madison Schools

YBDF partners with the St. Clair Butterfly Foundation to provide weekly yoga classes for students at Wilkinson Middle School in Madison Heights.


inMind offers school-wide mindfulness training at Pleasantview Elementary to empower children and teachers with tools that promote self-awareness, confidence, self-regulation, empathy and resilience. Every child and educator deserves tools to help reset, refocus and reignite effective learning environments.

Past Programs


YBDF funded a program for the Down Syndrome Guild of Southeast Michigan to help students gain yoga knowledge and start each day calm and organized.


Yoga class for girls at The Detroit Lion’s Academy began the first of February, 2013.  The mission of this class is to provide these students with tools that empower them to skillfully live healthy, fulfilling lives.

Yoga Moves MS

Students arrive with a range of symptoms, from a movement disorder to full-fledged Multiple Sclerosis. The poses and lessons of yoga help keep students nimble and stave off muscle tightness that often develops with MS.


YBDF offered classes that encouraged the residents to focus on how to empower themselves to find the strength they need withing to manage their lives.

Center for Exceptional Families

YBDF funded a yoga program that provided physical activity for patients diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy, down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, Prader Willi syndrome, hypotonia, and cognitive impairments.


YBDF funded a yoga program in 2013 where participants ranged in age from 42-82 and practiced traditional breathing and chair yoga postures.

Detroit VA Medical Center

Weekly yoga program for Veterans with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury, Military Sexual Trauma.  Veterans from the Vietnam era through present day returning veterans participate.

VA Domiciliary Residential Rehab Treatment Program

A weekly program at a VA rehab facility for homeless veterans recovering from substance use.

Camp Good Grief

Camp Good Grief is a day camp for children ages 8-17. The experience combines fun and adventurous activities with grief education and emotional support, all facilitated by Hospice of Michigan grief professionals and trained volunteers. Yoga naturally brings peace of mind to these healing youth.

Madison Prep

The Yoga by Design Foundation teamed up with the St. Clair Butterfly Foundation to bring the peace and healing powers of yoga to the at-risk students of Madison Prep High School. The YBDF program has supported community growth and an overall supportive environment. 


YBDF funded a program designed to strengthen urban communities by guiding youth in their mental, physical and educational growth, helping to strengthen and empower young adults.
